Born 26-Jul-1875 in Kesswil, Switzerland, Carl Gustav Jung is with Sigmund Freud and Alfred Adler one of the fathers of modern psychology.

Jung grew up in Basel, where he graduated from Medical School.

He worked 1900 to 1909 in the Burghölzli Psychiatric Clinic of Zürich University and held many academic positions:.

  • 1905 - 1913 he taught at Zürich University.
  • 1933 - 1942 Professor at ETH Zürich.
  • 1942 Professor at Basel University

He first met Sigmund Freud in 1907 and their friendship has been one of the motors behind the development of modern psychoanalysis (and a well documented P/J conflict). The friendship ended 1913 when Jung went on to develop his own, different vision of the psyche.

Personality type, which he first described in a few publications between 1920 and 1923, is part of that vision and the heritage that C.G.Jung left to human kind.

C.G.Jung passed away 6-Jun-1961 in Küsnacht, near Zürich.
